Okay, so you may not have got round to booking your flight to Malaga for Christmas, but how about seeing in the New Year in southern Spain? Flights from many UK departure points are easily available and the Spanish are certainly big on New Year’s celebrations.
As in the UK, one of the best options for celebrating the New Year festivities in the city or region of Malaga is to book a hotel package. In this way you can be sure that New Year’s Eve dinner and all the night’s festivities are taken care of and you won’t have to worry about making it back to your accommodation in the wee small hours.
For those who prefer a more traditional experience of Spain at New Year, you could join the hordes of locals who fill the streets of Malaga at this special time of year. The Plaza de la Constitucion is the main centre for the public celebrations in Malaga city and, after hearing the bells chime in the New Year, you can head off to one of the many bars or restaurants which are open until dawn.
Wherever you decide to celebrate New Year in Spain, don’t forget to pack your red underwear! Wearing red underwear on New Year’s Eve is one of the country’s old traditions.
Of course, if you already have plans in the UK for the coming New Year, then don’t forget that it is only a matter of weeks before St Valentine’s Day comes around. Why not whisk your beloved away from the cold British weather for a romantic week in Malaga? Beautiful florist shops abound in the city and so finding that perfect floral expression of your affection will not prove difficult. Instead of stocking up on those sweet Valentine’s treats from Thornton’s before you go, why not try some of the local Spanish delicacies instead?
If you want to really make some romantic memories, why not extend your February holiday and tie in a St Valentine’s Day trip to coincide with the Malaga Carnival? This superb annual event takes place anywhere from late January to early February and you can take part in a multitude of festivities and watch all the local parades. As the dates for the carnival vary from year to year, you will need to check these in advance and before booking your flights.
