There are some obvious omissions when it comes to learning what you can take on board an aeroplane with you when you are heading off on holiday. Items such as scissors and anything else that could be dangerous in any way should never be packed in your hand luggage.
But aside from the obvious items like this, you should give some serious consideration to what you will need to have with you. The flight to Malaga doesn’t take that long – it’s certainly not in the same league as a long distance flight – but you may still benefit from making sure you pack thoughtfully.
For starters you should ensure you have something to do on the flight, particularly if you happen to be a nervous flier. For instance what about packing a good book to read, particularly if you are already reading one and you aren’t too close to the end? There is nothing worse than packing a book you only have one chapter to go with, and then finding that once you’ve taken off you’ve finished the book.
Select something from a favourite author that you know you will find absorbing, and take that. Short stories can be good if you know you will only be able to read in fits and starts, but most people do just fine with a novel.
Some boiled sweets are another good idea as they will stop your ears from popping if you suffer from this. And if you aren’t sure, take them anyway. It’s far better to have them and not use them than to be stuck without any. Some airlines do have them to give out, but it is best not to take the chance.
Three other essentials you may not think about can be an absolute godsend if the rest of your luggage happens to go missing. We don’t like to think about it happening but it certainly does happen on occasions. These three items are your toothbrush (or at least a spare one), some toothpaste and some deodorant. If you have these items at least you know you will be able to freshen up a bit and clean your teeth if you arrive and your luggage doesn’t.
And along the same route, make sure you have some spare undies as well. They don’t take up much room, they’re light and they can be a blessing if you don’t get your luggage until the next day!
